For hypnotherapists who work with anxiety

How hypnotherapists turn Google searches into booked clients

You're good at helping people once they're in front of you. Getting them there is a different skill, and nobody taught it. If anxiety, stress, panic or overthinking are a big part of your work, this is for you. This page walks you through the 3-part system that's been working for the practices we work with. Plain English, and free.

Free to read. No sales pitch.

What busy practices tend to have in common

In our experience it's rarely about skill. Your training covered what to do in the session, not how the client finds you in the first place.

The practices we see with full calendars usually have three things in place: traffic, a page that makes the next step easy, and fast follow-up. When one is missing, the other two tend to struggle.

No traffic

A great page nobody sees.

No visitors, so no inquiries.

A confusing page

You pay for visitors who leave.

They have to think too hard, so they go back to Google.

Slow follow-up

A good inquiry often books someone else.

Whoever replied first usually gets them.

One example: a practice in Canada running all three booked CAD $48,235 of client work from CAD $4,471 of Google Ads, June to September 2026 (their own booking records). Past results don't guarantee future results.

Traffic: be there when they're looking

Somebody has to find you. Every channel works in some way, and each one has a catch. Here's the honest version.

ChannelCostSpeedThe catch
Referrals, word of mouthFreeSlowYou can't turn it up when the calendar's empty
Social mediaYour timeSlowMonths of posting, and people are scrolling, not searching
SEOFree-ish6 to 12 monthsCompetitive, and slow to build
Facebook and Instagram adsPaidMediumYou're interrupting people who weren't looking for help
Google AdsPaidDaysCosts money, needs attention, and takes time to learn

Swipe the table sideways to see every column.

Why we put most of our attention on Google: intent. Someone typing their problem into Google at 10pm usually isn't idly scrolling. They're looking for help, often that day. You don't need to convince them of anything. You just need to be the one they find.

The 5 biggest lessons from 12 years of Google Ads for hypnotherapists

These come from the practices we run ads for that help people with anxiety, stress and related issues.

  1. People search their problem, not your job title. In our data, most bookings didn't come from "hypnotherapist near me". The biggest group had already tried therapy, CBT or medication. After that came people wanting it gone for good, calming their nervous system, panic attacks and overthinking.
  2. "I've tried CBT" is often a reason to talk.It tends to pay to write your ads and your page for the person who's done the usual things and wants something different.
  3. Pay only for people in your area.Google's default location setting also shows your ads to people who are merely "interested in" your area. Switch it to people who are actually in it.
  4. Send ads to an issue-specific landing page, not your homepage.A high-converting page about the exact thing they searched for. More on that in Pillar 2.
  5. Judge it on booked consults, not clicks.A cheap click from someone looking for a free app usually isn't worth much. And in our experience a new account needs months, not weeks, to learn.

Source: booked consults traced back to the searches behind them, across 12 live Google Ads accounts focused on anxiety, in the 12 months to September 2026. Read the full write-up.

A page that makes one decision easy

Most websites try to do everything: your story, every issue you help with, fees, training, a blog. An anxious visitor has to work out where to start, and plenty of them just leave.

What tends to work better, in our experience, is one page, about one problem, with one low-risk next step. Here's a sample, and why each part is there.

Sample page, fictional practiceTop of a sample landing page for a fictional hypnotherapist: headline, bullet points, two buttons and a practitioner card 12345
  1. The headline names the problem and the outcome. So the visitor can tell quickly they're in the right place.
  2. Bullets in their words.Panic, overwhelm, stress. What they'd say to a friend.
  3. A low-risk first step, near the top.A free call, or a free relaxation audio. Few people buy six sessions straight from a web page.
  4. A real person.Photo, name, training. Short. They're often deciding whether they can trust you.
  5. A trust strip.Credentials and "confidential" where the eye lands next.
Client stories section of the sample page with two written testimonials
Further down: proof. Reviews show as people scroll, never behind a "click to load" button. (Sample reviews, not real.)
Free relaxation kit section of the sample page with a short opt-in form
A short form. A free audio for people who aren't ready to book yet. Name, email and phone is enough to start a conversation.

Pillar 3

They found you on Google. If you don't reply fast, they click back and book your competitor.

In our experience, whoever responds first usually gets the client. It's where a lot of practices lose people, and it's often the cheapest pillar to fix, because it doesn't add a cent to your ad spend.

Sunday 9pm, slow reply

  1. She finally works up the courage and fills in your form.
  2. She's looked at two or three other therapists too.
  3. You see it and call back. She's already booked with someone who replied first.
A good inquiry, lost.

Sunday 9pm, instant reply

  1. She fills in your form.
  2. A friendly text and email from you, with a link to book.
  3. She picks a time in your calendar before bed.
You wake up to a booked consult.

Hi Alex, just checking the hypnosis MP3 was helpful? If you'd like a quick chat about hypnotherapy, you can pick a time here: book.example.com

Texts that go out automatically. Names and the reply are examples.

What good follow-up looks like

  1. An instant text. Thanks for reaching out, here's what happens next, here's where to book.
  2. An instant email saying the same, plus anything you promised.
  3. A booking link, so they pick a time themselves. No back and forth.
  4. Reminders by text and email, so fewer people forget.
  5. A few kind nudges for anyone who didn't book. Plenty of people book on the second or third.

Doing it by hand first

You can do all of this manually at first.

Manual follow-up0 of 4

Once you're busy with clients, the manual version tends to slip. That's usually the point where a CRM earns its keep, replying every time, while you're in session or asleep.
