- The right agency can show booked clients from real accounts, not clicks or followers.
- Ask who manages your account, how enquiries are followed up, and how paying clients are tracked back to the ad.
- The first three months are partly a learning period. Be wary of anyone promising a full diary straight away.
- Red flags: guaranteed results, long lock-in contracts, and no access to your own ad account.
The best marketing agency for a hypnotherapy practice is the one that can show you booked clients from real accounts, explain who will run yours, follow up every enquiry fast, and let you leave if it isn't working. Whether it's a specialist, a general agency or a freelancer matters less than those four things.
I run a marketing agency for hypnotherapists, so I'm not a neutral judge, and I'd rather say that up front. What I can do is lay out the options as I see them after 12+ years in this niche, and give you the questions I'd want answered if I were the one paying. Use them on anyone you talk to, including me.
What makes a marketing agency good for a hypnotherapy practice?
A good marketing agency for hypnotherapists can show booked clients from real accounts, understands how people actually search for help with anxiety and other issues, and makes sure every enquiry is followed up fast.
Most agencies are judged on things that are easy to measure and don't pay your rent: impressions, clicks, followers, rankings. The number that matters to a practice is how many paying clients came in and what they cost. An agency that can't talk about that number is guessing, however polished the report looks.
There's plenty of good work done by general agencies and freelancers. The question isn't whether they're capable. It's whether they know this market well enough that you aren't paying for them to learn it.
The five options compared
A hypnotherapist can do their own marketing, hire a freelancer, use a general agency, use a therapist-marketing agency, or use a hypnotherapy specialist. Each one suits a different practice.
| Option | Best for | Strength | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do it yourself | Practices with time and a small budget | Cheapest in cash | Costs hours every week; easy to waste ad spend while learning |
| Freelancer | One clear job, such as a website | Flexible and affordable | Usually covers one piece, not the whole path to a booking |
| General marketing agency | Larger multi-service clinics | Broad skills and resources | Little hypnotherapy knowledge; you may fund their learning |
| Therapist-marketing agency | Counsellors and psychologists | Understands health-related advertising | Hypnotherapy is often a side line, and the searches differ |
| Hypnotherapy specialist | Practices that want steady clients without becoming marketers | Knows which searches and pages book consults | Fewer to choose from; check how many practices they take per area |
If you have more time than money, start by doing it yourself, and read Google Ads for hypnotherapists first. If your time is worth more spent seeing clients, a specialist is usually the faster route.
Specialist or general agency: what actually differs
A hypnotherapy specialist already knows which searches turn into booked consults and which pages convert them. A general agency has to learn that on your budget.
The difference shows up in the detail. Across 12 live anxiety-hypnotherapy accounts we run, over the 12 months to 21 September 2026, most booked consults did not come from "hypnotherapist near me". They came from people searching their problem, or the treatments they'd already tried, like CBT, counselling or medication. An agency that only bids on "hypnotherapist" plus your suburb misses most of those people.
Hypnotherapy also sits next to health topics, so ad wording matters. "Cure" and "permanently eliminate" style claims can get ads disapproved and damage trust. Someone who works in this niche every day knows where those lines are.
A specialist isn't automatically better, though. Ask for the same evidence from everyone. A general agency with real hypnotherapy results is a better bet than a specialist who can't show any.
10 questions to ask any agency before you sign
The questions that matter ask for real numbers, ask who does the work, and ask what happens after someone enquires.
- What did a practice like mine get, in booked clients and cost per client? Ask for real figures, and how they were worked out.
- Who builds and manages my account? A named person, or a team you'll never speak to?
- Do you work with other hypnotherapists in my area? If yes, you may be bidding against your own agency.
- Which channel will you use, and why that one? Google Search reaches people actively looking for help; social reaches people who weren't.
- What happens in the first minutes after someone enquires? Slow follow-up quietly costs more bookings than weak ads.
- How do you track a paying client back to the ad? If they can't, they can't optimise for paying clients.
- Who owns the ad account and the data? You should be able to see it.
- What's the contract length and the exit process?
- What will you need from me each week?
- What would make you turn me down? A good agency has an answer.
Question 10 is the one I'd pay most attention to. An agency that would take anyone, anywhere, at any budget hasn't thought about whether it can actually help you.
I only take one hypnotherapist per area, so the first step is checking yours is still free. Takes two minutes.
See if my area is freeRed flags
The main red flags in a hypnotherapy marketing agency are guaranteed results, long lock-in contracts, and reports that never mention clients.
- Guarantees. No one can promise a number of clients before seeing your area, fees and follow-up.
- 12-month contracts from day one. An agency that's confident in its work doesn't need to tie you in.
- Vanity reports. Impressions, reach and clicks without booked consults or revenue.
- Medical claims in your ads. "Cure anxiety" style promises put your ads and your reputation at risk.
- No access to your own account. If you leave, you should be able to see what was done with your money.
What the first three months should look like
The first three months with any Google Ads agency are partly a learning period. Consults can start soon after launch, but Google needs booked-client data before it knows which searches in your area are worth paying for.
This is slow, and an honest agency will tell you so before you sign. Here's roughly what a sensible first 90 days looks like:
- Build. Ads, a page for each main issue, booking calendar, follow-up and tracking, all tested end to end before anything goes live.
- Launch. Search ads go live in your area only, aimed at problem searches, with negative keywords in place from day one.
- Early weeks. Search terms are reviewed often, irrelevant ones are blocked, and every enquiry gets an instant reply.
- Months two and three. As consults turn into paying clients, that value goes back into Google Ads so bidding shifts towards searches that actually make you money.
- Day 90 review. Judge it on cost per booked consult, how many consults became clients, and revenue. Not on clicks.
If an agency promises a full diary in the first fortnight, I'd be wary. It does happen in some areas, but it isn't something anyone can promise.
What fair pricing looks like
Fair pricing for a hypnotherapy marketing agency is usually a setup fee for the build and a monthly management fee, with the ad budget paid separately and directly to Google.
Be wary of pricing that bundles the ad budget into the fee without showing you how much actually reaches Google. You should be able to see your own ad spend in your own account. For reference, my pricing is public on the pricing page, and the ad-budget side is covered in how much Google Ads costs for hypnotherapists.
When you don't need an agency
A hypnotherapist doesn't need an agency if their diary is already full from referrals, or if they have the time and interest to learn Google Ads themselves.
Plenty of practitioners run their own ads well. If that's you, focus on a page per issue, presence-only location targeting, fast follow-up and tracking booked consults rather than clicks. The guide on how to get hypnotherapy clients lays out a 30-day plan you can follow without anyone's help. An agency earns its fee when your hours are worth more in the therapy room than in an ads dashboard.
How HypnoLeadFlo answers those questions
HypnoLeadFlo is a Google Search specialist for hypnotherapists: one practice per area, every account managed personally by James Brine, automatic follow-up on every enquiry, and no lock-in contract.
Briefly, since you'll want to know how I answer my own questions. I manage every account personally. I never put two clients in the same area. Enquiries get an automatic text and email reply straight away, then reminders. The value of paying clients goes back into Google Ads so bidding learns what's worth paying for. There's no lock-in, and the first three months are a pilot because that's how long the system takes to learn your area.
As for results, a Canadian practice put CAD $4,471 into Google Ads from June to September 2026 and booked CAD $48,235 in client revenue, recorded from the practice's own booking records. That's one practice, not a guarantee. The other numbers are on the results page with how they were worked out, and how HypnoLeadFlo works shows each step.
If you'd like to talk it through, the first step is checking your area is free. See if your area is free and I'll take a look. If I don't think it would work for you, I'll say so.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best marketing agency for hypnotherapists?
The one that can show booked clients from real hypnotherapy accounts, tells you who manages your account, and doesn't lock you into a long contract. Ask every agency for the same numbers and compare.
Should a hypnotherapist use a general marketing agency?
It can work, especially for larger clinics, but a general agency may lack hypnotherapy-specific knowledge, so you may pay while it learns which searches book consults. Ask for real hypnotherapy results either way.
How much should a hypnotherapy marketing agency cost?
Usually a setup fee plus a monthly management fee, with the ad budget paid separately to Google. Ask to see exactly how much of your money reaches the ads.
How long before a marketing agency gets me hypnotherapy clients?
Consults can start soon after launch, but Google needs a few months of booked-client data to learn which searches are worth paying for. Judge an agency at around 90 days on booked consults and revenue.
Is Google Ads or social media better for hypnotherapists?
For steady bookings, Google Search usually works better because it reaches people while they're actively looking for help. Social is better suited to awareness and trust.
Should an agency work with other hypnotherapists in my area?
Ideally not. If an agency runs ads for two practices in the same area, it can end up bidding against itself for the same searches.
Can I do my own hypnotherapy marketing?
Yes, if you have the time to learn and manage it. Start with a focused Google Search campaign, a page per issue, fast follow-up and tracking of booked consults.
